Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 1 Review | Anime Blog 24

Blue Lock Season 2 started with Episode 1, and it was okay. After hearing people talk about the trailer, I wasn’t sure if the animation would be bad, like a slideshow. But luckily, it wasn’t that bad. The animation was fine. Nothing amazing, but nothing awful either.

Story-wise, the episode did its job by setting things up for the season. We see some conflicts coming up, especially from people outside Blue Lock who want to stop the program. There’s also the issue with Rin and his brother Sae, but that wasn’t too surprising. A new character, Aiku, shows up, and he’s another egoist player trying to beat the Blue Lock guys. It wasn’t a big shock, and I didn’t feel too excited about him.

One character I liked from the first season was Kunigami. He was different from the others because he didn’t just act like a typical egoist. Sure, his choices led to some problems for him, but at least he stood out. The issue with the show is that a lot of the characters start to feel the same. Even though they all have different personalities, their goals are the same—be the best. After a while, it gets kind of repetitive. Isagi, Rin, Shidou, and the others all have that “I’m going to crush you” attitude, which can get boring.

But I did agree with Isagi in this episode when he said he needs to stand out while also fitting in with Rin and Shidou’s team. For once, I actually thought he made a good point. The show can’t just be about who yells "give me the ball" the loudest. There needs to be more depth to the characters.

In the end, there wasn’t much that really wowed me in this premiere. The music was surprisingly good, though, and the first scene looked pretty cool. If the rest of the season looks like that, it could be exciting. Overall, the episode was okay but not amazing. I’d give it a 7/10. Hopefully, the next episodes will bring more excitement.
