Before Agatha All Along even aired, Aubrey Plaza hinted that the relationship between Rio Vidal and Agatha Harkness might have a romantic angle. Kathryn Hahn, who plays Agatha, later confirmed this in interviews, adding more excitement for fans. In episode 4, we finally got a glimpse of their messy past, revealing that their relationship left Rio with deep emotional scars caused by Agatha.
The episode even came close to showing a kiss between the two characters. After a trial, Rio and Agatha, overwhelmed by their emotions, embraced, stopping just short of kissing. Marvel Studios later confirmed their romantic involvement by sharing an image to celebrate International Lesbian Day, showing the characters nearly kissing.

What’s surprising is that, unlike other inclusive shows like The Acolyte, which featured lesbian space witches and faced backlash, Agatha All Along hasn’t received much negative attention so far. But this may change soon.
According to IMDb, Samantha J. McDonald, an intimacy coordinator, is credited for episodes 6 and 8 of the series. Intimacy coordinators manage scenes involving physical closeness, such as romantic or $exua1 scenes, to ensure actors feel safe and comfortable. While we don’t know exactly what will happen in these episodes, the inclusion of an intimacy coordinator suggests there may be more intense romantic scenes between Rio Vidal and Agatha Harkness.
These scenes could be flashbacks showing more of their complicated past relationship. While gay relationships aren’t new to the MCU, if the show includes explicit scenes, it could trigger backlash, especially from fans who oppose such content. If the show pushes boundaries with these episodes, it could spark a strong reaction from anti-woke viewers.
